YouTube Advertising Options for CMOs

Advertising on YouTube is essential to reach more of your target audience.

With YouTube’s TrueView ad platform, your company can easily reach their target market and do so in a way that is not intrusive or disrupting to their online experience.

It has been proven that visual content is much more engaging to customers, so it only makes sense that many companies are beginning to use videos in their marketing efforts. YouTube is the second most used search engine which is why many companies are turning to the platform to promote their brand. There are three main types of YouTube ads available for your CMOs to use but deciding which one, or if all, is the best will depend on what you wish to gain from advertising on YouTube.

YouTube Advertising Options

Before you begin to think about what type of YouTube ads will benefit your brand, it is important to create a strategy that outlines what message you’d like to get across to your customers and understand what type of ad your customers will find the least intrusive.

TrueView in-stream ads
These YouTube ads play before, during or after other videos. Viewers can skip these ads after five seconds which makes them less intrusive to customers and allows them to decide if they wish to watch the ad, instead of being made to sit through an ad that does not appeal to their interests. A good thing about this type of ad is that you only pay if a viewer watches 30 seconds or more of your ad or interacts with the ad.

TrueView video discovery ads
This type of ad appears next to related YouTube videos, on the homepage, in a search result or on a video partner site. YouTube discovery ads are beneficial to your company because you only pay if a viewer clicks on the ad to view it and allows you to know more about when and where your ads work best.

Bumper ads
With YouTube bumper ads, viewers cannot skip your ads and they are shorter than six seconds so many viewers find them less intrusive. These types of ads are played before, during or after videos and you pay based on cost-per-thousand impressions. With bumper ads, you can better understand the number of impressions your ads make on your viewers, giving you important data that lets you know what works best for your target audience.

Once you have chosen which ad will fit your marketing needs best from this YouTube ads list, the next thing to think about is if you want to geo-target your audience based on where they live. It is also important to think about the different operating systems and device models your audience will be using to view your ad. Make sure you take into consideration the fact that most of your viewers will be seeing your ad on their smartphone and not everyone has an iOS or Android operating system. It is essential to keep in mind the different mobile devices your viewers will be using, as well as the different carriers they have and Wi-Fi signals in different parts of the world.

YouTube ads can be created in different languages to cater to your audience no matter where they live in the world. With YouTube’s TrueView advertising platform, you have many different options of how you want your audience to view your ads. Before creating ads for YouTube, make sure you begin with a strategy that will guide you through the process and ensure that your ads are reaching your target audience. Without beginning with an ad strategy, your ads will most likely not be effective and not reach the desired audience.
