Technology has changed the way people work. One way is by enabling greater connectivity also offering mobility. New security technologies such as identify and access management software can offer businesses the safety and security of knowing their data is only being accessed by approved employees while also giving employees the resources and data they need to success in their positions, even away from the office.

The technology used in human resource management in now benefitting the recruitment and hiring process. In addition to digital message boards and social media assisting in publishing and sharing job postings, technology has made searching through resumes simpler by accessing key words that match the job posting or requirements. Additionally, machine learning technology has improved the ability to target people with personalized job postings and ads. By analyzing data from multiple places, machine learning can more effectively match people’s interest with a potential job fit. This change in human resource management due to technology is one that can benefit both employers and potential employees.

Another impact of technology in human resource management is helping organizations and HR departments to understand how their employees are experiencing the company. Technology has allowed for employee feedback to be collected and that data to be analyzed to create better experiences for employees. More engaged and satisfied employees prove to be more productive employees.

Benefits and Payroll

Companies used to manually run checks to distribute and pay their employees. Then came advancements in banking and direct deposit. Many employees can now log in to a web-based payroll system and check their tax exemptions, download their past pay stubs, update their banking information, check on benefits information, and even digitally request and log time off.

One up and coming change that technology is bringing to HR is when it comes benefits and wellness. Companies are investing in wellness programs where if their employees participate, it can help to offset some of their insurance cost. Companies are utilizing web-based programs where employees log their wellness activities and earn points or are using the technology of wearable to help track employee fitness and activity to calculate their wellness benefits.

Automation

Finally, the technology that allows for more and more tasks to be automated – like running payroll and time clocks – allows for HRM staff to focus on tasks and challenges that require more creativity, such as writing compelling job postings or creating employee appreciation events.
