Facebook Stories are making remarkable strides in terms of growth and daily usage; after only 14 months from launching the new feature, Facebook plans to capitalize on the their success by introducing ads into their stories. The ads are currently being tested in the United States, Brazil, and Mexico. They involve 5 to 15 second video clips that can be skipped by users, unlike some Snapchat ads. The click-through feature hasn’t been added to video ads yet, but Facebook claims they will implement that addition in the next couple of months.

Most people wouldn’t have imagined another social media application surpassing Snapchat in terms of their story function, but their recent decrease in ratings have come as a result of its new design. Statista shows that Snapchat’s daily user count is around 191 million in the month of May, which is still more than Facebook’s current tally. Nonetheless, at the rate that Facebook is going, it is difficult to see Snapchat overtaking their competitors for much longer if they’re unable to make some impactful changes to their interface.

Snapchat is known for its story function, and after dominating the feature for years, their recent changes has stagnated their growth in terms of daily active users. The question remains: can they improve their model or will they become the second-tier story app?
