Data Platform Looker 6 Launched

At the annual JOIN 2018 conference for data professionals, Looker Data Sciences released the next iteration of its Looker data platform, Looker 6. Looker 6 will be available in early 2019, and is an extensible and consolidated platform designed to flex and scale alongside the information changes that a business undergoes.

Frank Bien, CEO of Looker, said “Early on, Looker built its BI application to solve the issues of access to accurate, timely business data at the scale that were the result of decades of either inflexible solutions or constrained tools. Today, data is the lifeblood of organizations and users want to do more than just look at data; they want to work in it. To achieve that, companies need a data platform with a scalable and extensible architecture. Looker 6 is the next evolution of our platform – designed for those building the next generation of data applications and analytic workflows.”

Looker 6 offers new apps for digital marketing, new apps for web analytics, a new set of development tools for data analysts, and new self-service analysis capabilities for business users. It also includes new enterprise security management and encryption architecture, new exploration capabilities, and refined visualization and customization features.

Looker can also provide new enterprise security compliance certifications upon request and plans to localize the application and data modeling in German, French, and Japanese beginning in 2019. It builds upon Looker’s business intelligence application and adds enhanced tools, enhanced enterprise-level features, and stronger plug-and-play applications specific to departments.

Daniel Mintz, Chief Data Evangelist at Looker, said, “Looker 6 is particularly exciting for the marketer as it includes our plug-and-play digital marketing and web analytics applications features that are intentionally designed to cater to the specific day-to-day needs and tasks for people in this department. This is the just the beginning for applications. The need for information is only going to continue to grow and change so to keep up with that demand, Looker is building more department specific applications and will be encouraging our partners to build them as well.”

Looker 6 can be used in many different business services and features increased functionality in alerting, application editing, content discovery, custom fields, scheduling, and workflows.
