Freshworks, a company recognized by many as a global leader customer engagement software, has appointed a new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). David Thompson, who comes to Freshworks as a veteran of the Software as a Service (SaaS) industry, has already launched an aggressive campaign that is aimed at positioning his new employer as a “smart, friendly alternative in a bloated SaaS market.”
Thompson previously served as CMO at WebEx which he helped to build into the first global SaaS brand. According to a press release by Freshworks’ public relations firm, Thompson was instrumental in positioning WebEx “for IPO and subsequent buyout by Cisco.” Thompson also served as CEO and founder of Genius.com/LeadRocket, a marketing automation provider which he grew to number 150 on the Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing private companies. The company was later purchased by CallidusCloud. “More recently, he served as CMO at Auction.com/Ten-X and as CSO/acting CMO at Domo,” the press release states.
Girish Mathrubootham, Freshworks’ CEO, said, “This is an extraordinarily exciting time for everybody on the Freshworks team. David is a true visionary, strategic thinker and leader with energy and competitive fire. He has a proven history in SaaS marketing and has created collaborative working environments that bring out the best in every employee. We’re already seeing impressive results with our new advertising campaign and look forward to reinvigorating our marketing strategy with David at the helm.”
In August, Freshworks launched its “Hit Refresh” campaign which, according to the company, “features a colorful cast of animated SaaS office workers revolting against their employers’ current SaaS solutions – and demanding they be replaced with refreshingly simple customer engagement software from Freshworks. The advertising campaign has been rolled out on billboards, radio, online banner and online video advertisements. David Thompson is set to play a key role in a new advertising push that capitalizes on the themes of “Hit Refresh.”
