Buzzfeed’s newest morning show ‘AM to DM’ is already in the news due to its increasing viewership. According to Buzzfeed, the shows viewership has gone up to 1 Million unique viewers per day, with clips that have been viewed millions of times. This is a remarkable achievement considering that the show is less than a couple of weeks old.
The company also showed tweets indicating that people are watching the show while at work, at school, or just listening to the audio.
AM to DM is a latest addition by Buzzfeed. The show is airing exclusively on Twitter Feeds and is hosted by real life friends Executive Editor for Culture Saeed Jones and Buzzfeed Books Editor Isaac Fitzgerald. Instead of following the norm and airing early morning like other TV shows, Buzzfeed’s show will start at 10 a.m. ET, which editor Ben Smith said is quite intentional. Millennials are a bit less likely than their parents to be interested in watching something that starts so early, he reasoned.
Buzzfeed’s take on the shows potential audience according to Smith – “One thing we know about them is that they’re on Twitter, which is to say that they’re maniacs.”
Buzzfeed is partnering with Twitter for this show. According to a person familiar with the arrangement, Buzzfeed is paying for the expenses of production and the two organizations are splitting the revenue from advertising.
“Twitter is the beating heart of news,” said Ben Smith, BuzzFeed’s Editor-in-Chief. “The exciting thing about this show is that while much of television news now is basically explaining to you what happened a few hours ago on Twitter, we get to come to an informed and up-to-date audience from right inside the news cycle.”
With so much of content available on Twitter, this show has the potential to generate a lot of traction. According to the statistics, they seem to be on the right track.
