Something is brewing at Samsung.
The South Korean electronics giant is working to create a smart speaker. Confirmed by D.J. Koh, president of Samsung’s mobile division during the launch of Galaxy 8, the company will soon launch a smart speaker system. He did not specify the timeline, but confirmed the product will be released soon. Koh added that he has been working diligently on the device and wants to ensure a “fruitful” user experience at home with other Samsung devices.
Koh did not mention or confirm inclusion of Bixby, Samsung’s digital assistant, but there is a possibility that Bixby will be incorporated into the new device. The company already installed Bixby into its smart refrigerators, also known as connected refrigerators and will eventually cover the entire product line of Samsung, ranging from smart TVs to wearable devices.
A critical element for Bixby is that it is not that effective or as good compared to Google’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri. The latter have already done good work when it comes to digital assistants, but Bixby is behind.
However, Samsung employees do want Bixby to be a part of the product line and, as a matter of fact, the product is already available in over 200 countries worldwide.
