Social gaming company RockYou Media is going one step beyond their core business. The company has recently launched a new digital platform for multicultural millennial women – calling it Vocally.
Speaking on this new development, CEO Lisa Marino said, “The website is billed as a safe space to showcase unique perspectives of young women, and it will take advantage of RockYou’s existing base of 75 million monthly users.”
At the moment, Vocallly is using the current platform of RockYou Media for all of its social and mobile games. Marino indicated that the company has been working on Vocally for over a year. The idea was a spin-off from the acquisition of FanBread, an influencer marketing firm that RockYou purchased in August of 2016.
Marino stated, “FanBread had the makings of the platform, which is a vehicle for original stories, art, illustrations, editorials, and video. Some of the content will be created and curated by Vocally’s recently hired team, and some will be created by the users themselves.”
She further added that, “it is an extension of what they have been doing. We are actively running games and still expanding that. We’ve made investments in non-game media, and with FanBread we gained the ability to create content.”
RockYou Media currently has an ad network that it leverages to get monetary returns on social and mobile games. Marino said, “It’s a digital-first platform that can apply to any content. We are starting from the beginning, and we think there will be demand for this.”
RockYou Media has around 265 employees, which includes a team of 135 in India and another 55 in Thailand. In a recent hiring push at the top level, the company recruited three female executives – Sherry Herman as Senior Vice President of Sales; Dera Campbell as Senior Vice President of Strategy & Operations; and Emily Smith as Senior Vice President & General Manager of Media.
