The global market is in a frenzy after news that global consulting firm Deloitte has been hacked, in what is said to be a major cyber-attack. Sources indicated that the attack targeted email systems with client data. Deloitte is considered to be among the “Big Four”, and this attack has created a major dent in the market – considering that a large portion of Deloitte’s business is related to cyber security.
Details are not clear yet, but experts are considering various possibilities. Sources have indicated that the details about the extent of damage will be out soon.
So what did the hackers steal from Deloitte? Initial reports coming from inside indicate the hackers have accessed their email systems. Details on specific client emails and plans of some of Deloitte’s blue chip clients have also been compromised. Though no one has taken responsibility of the hack, the pattern of hacking clearly points to either a Russian group who are known to plot such crimes, or a group sponsored by the Chinese Government. Last year China was actively involved in the forceful infiltrations of systems in some law firms and their clients.
While details are not available on the extent of hack and the damages done, sources indicate Deloitte was aware that something was wrong, which they knew from October of last year. Deloitte did release a statement confirming the hack, but they are yet to reveal any details.
