Hulu is attempting to change how individuals watch their favorite shows and programs on TV by allowing users to watch Hulu Live TV on any Mac or PC via certain web browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Internet Explorer 11.
Hulu’s competitors Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, YouTube TV, and DirecTV Now have already made the transition to live content on their respective platforms. Although it is a big move for Hulu in their quest to compete with other online streaming sites, don’t expect the best possible experience from Hulu just yet. The company claims that its current version will be nothing close to its final product that it is currently working on.
In a recent blog post, they specified what the plan anticipates and the future of its new live TV feature:
“Rather than wait until we’ve finalized our new web experience, we’re opening up a basic version to Hulu’s live TV plan subscribers so they can stream live TV via their browsers… From point, click, and keyboard interactions, to responsive pages to fit all screen sizes; we are carefully considering all of the things that make building a web experience unique from living room and mobile devices.”
Hulu’s Live TV plan will allow users to watch live television from “more than 50 channels from individual networks, all the Hulu on-demand movies and originals, premium channels like HBO, Cinemax and Showtime, and catch the latest live games from ESPN, Fox Sports and CBS.”
In select markets, users will also be able to have the ability to watch local ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox affiliates. Currently, only the primary profile associated with users’ Hulu account will allow Live TV on the web, which causes a slight inconvenience for households with multiple profiles. Further, Hulu will allow its users to have multiple streams open at the same time with web browsers which is beneficial for specific events, like sporting events, and that feature is limited on smartphones and the Apple TV version of the app.
Hulu is new to this live streaming phenomenon, but they’re taking serious precautions to ensure their future is bright in the field.
