Amazon Cash Hits 7 Eleven

7-Eleven will add Amazon Cash service facilities to their stores, which allow customers to add cash to their Amazon accounts. This service will be made available at their 8,000 U.S. stores.

The Amazon Cash service was started by Amazon in April, intended to simplify the process of payment for customers who do not have credit cards and would like to pay in cash. The service was launched with a few smaller and regional chains, and has since grown to include GameStop and other retailers. The addition of 7-Eleven to this list is a noteworthy boost for Amazon Cash.

Adding cash is quite simple and free. If a customer wants to load money into their Amazon account, they have to give a barcode and the amount of cash they wish to add to the 7- eleven cashier, the barcode can be found in their Amazon app. Once the cashier scans the barcode the amount gets added to the customer’s Amazon account. The barcode can be printed or sent via a text message.

Tony Stapleton, Senior Product Director for 7-Eleven said: “7-Eleven has long been an advocate for giving customers many options on how to pay for products and services. 7-Eleven constantly updates and introduces new forms of payments to respond to continued shifts in customer preferences, lifestyles, and adoption of new technologies.”

An estimated 27% of consumers in U.S pay cash, unable to shop online due to lack of credit card. A market this size needs a simplified and inexpensive solution for shopping. Until this service was introduced, customers who didn’t have credit cards had to buy an Amazon Gift card or add cash to prepaid payment cards.

Besides Amazon, a few other companies provide similar services. PayPal has a My Cash Card, which is available in numerous retail stores; and Walmart has Pay With Cash service that allows customers to order online and pay in cash at the store.

Customers can still purchase Amazon gift cards at 7-Eleven stores, which range from $25 to $500.

This is the second major alliance between Amazon and 7-Eleven. 7-Eleven works with Amazon in providing lockers for package delivery from the company. They have pickup lockers inside 7-Eleven stores in over 300 cities.
