Sriram Krishnan has been appointed as the Senior Director of Products at Twitter.
He announced the news himself, through a tweet of course, with a hearty endorsement from CEO Jack Dorsey. He will be reporting to Keith Coleman, who is Twitter’s VP of Products. Sriram is very popular on Twitter, where he is a regular, always pontificating, debating, and snaring in 140 characters or less. He has also had a marvelous career with some of the biggest names in Silicon Valley. He worked at Snap most recently; before that, he worked at Facebook, Yahoo, and Microsoft in products and advertising.
There is no information currently available about his exact role or responsibilities at Twitter.
The company has shown signs of stagnation over the past quarter, which has sent its stock prices into a bit of a decline. While Twitter maintains millions of dedicated users, it has become challenging for them to find the right combination of services and user experiences to attract a wider audience. They must also compete with the likes of Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat in a crowded social media market.
Krishnan is a well-known product expert around the Valley, but he has primarily focused on advertising technology. At Facebook, he helped build the company’s ad network, Audience Network, and he performed similar work at Snap. Now he’s taking on a consumer product role — and for a company that has had trouble retaining consumer product executives over the past few years. In an odd twist, Twitter now has a large number of product executives, which means the company may be looking to expand its offerings.
