Shiftgig, the Chicago based “LinkedIn for hourly workers” that connects businesses with upper-tier hourly workers, announced that Wade Burgess will join the company as Chief Executive Officer. The current CEO Eddie Lou will remain with Shiftgig in his new role as Executive Chairman. The leadership change allows Shiftgig to build on the company’s powerful reputation, increase the pace of innovation, and position itself for another phase of growth. Burgess is tasked with coordinating Shiftgig’s product and technology roadmap, support process, and improving operating practices. Gig workers are reportedly expected to make up approximately forty-five percent of the American workforce sometime over the next four years.
Wade Burgess had this to say: “For nearly a decade I’ve had the opportunity to work toward LinkedIn’s vision, creating economic opportunity for millions of professionals. Shiftgig allows me to extend this mission to a broader base of the workforce – the gig and hourly worker. The natural synergy is not only in the missions of both companies, but the focus on positively impacting businesses and changing the talent landscape. I look forward to driving real impact for this segment of the workforce.”
Eddie Lou expressed: “I met Wade earlier this year and felt that his experiences over the last 20 years — particularly at LinkedIn — and his leadership style will take us to bigger heights. The experience he had are perfect for what our ambitions are at this company. We set out on a very specific mission with Shiftgig: to connect millions of people with millions of shifts. With the gig economy’s exploding growth, we feel we’re closer than ever to making this a reality. Wade is the right leader at the right time – not only does he believe in our vision and mission, but he’s already successfully accomplished it for a different segment of the workforce, and understands the magnitude of the opportunity we have to do something similar for the hourly worker.”
