Viacom has chosen an experienced, digital-minded executive to run their new Digital Content Studio. The intent is help the cable company grow in a challenging environment. The executive is Kelly Day, who was AwesomenessTV’s Chief Business Officer, and had worked in various leadership roles in digital companies. She was, for example, the first AwesomenessTV Chief Digital Officer. Day also worked for Discovery Communications as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media and Commerce. Prior to Discovery, she worked for internet-media companies, including AOL.
“Kelly has an impressive track record of building successful digital businesses, and I am so pleased to have her on board to accelerate our push into digital-native content,” said Bob Bakish, Viacom’s CEO, in an official press release. “She and our new Viacom Digital Studios group will ensure that we are delivering more, better aligned and digital-first experiences, helping us to further grow the reach of our brands with our diverse audiences and introducing more opportunities for our advertising and distribution partners.”
Day will start on November 20, and her tasks will be among the most pressing for the cable company. With both affiliate fees and advertising revenue declining, Viacom is seeking new ways to attract viewers to their products. She will work across Viacom’s brands on digital strategy building for their current programming, as well as original content in a variety of formats to attract audiences and drive innovation through all platforms.
