Facebook’s Director of Corporate Development, Gary Johnson, is moving over to Pinterest in the role of Head of Corporate and Business Development. Johnson has been with Facebook for six years. Before that, he worked with Credit Suisse, Jefferies & Co. and Apple.
At Pinterest, Johnson will lead the strategy for key global business initiatives. He will be tasked with growing and scaling the company’s corporate development and business development teams.
Johnson will report to Pinterest Chief Financial Officer Todd Morgenfeld, who said in a statement announcing the hire: “As an expert in building and scaling partnership programs with some of the world’s most successful consumer technology companies, Gary’s leadership will accelerate our business building efforts as we look ahead and continue growing our global operations.”
Johnson added, “Unlike any other product in the market, Pinterest provides a world in which hundreds of millions of people can discover and do the things they love, from the everyday to the aspirational. Pinterest unlocks people’s hidden superpowers. I’m excited to join this world-class team in building a product that brings value across audiences, from Pinners to partners and brands and content creators, and help in continuing to grow the company.”
Valued at more than $12 billion, Pinterest now has more than 150 million users. Some analysts speculate that the startup is gearing up for an initial public offering in 2018, but CEO Ben Silbermann denied IPO speculations.
