Apple plans to help victims affected by Hurricanes Irma by donating $5 million. The company’s involvement in relief aid is in collaboration with Hand in Hand, which has been responsible for gathering donations for various organizations like Habitat for Humanity and United Way.
In an effort to help make the donation process easier, Apple will include a button in the iTunes Store that will allow users to donate directly to Hand in Hand. An official statement from Apple said, “Starting this weekend, anyone with an iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC running iTunes can donate directly through the App Store and iTunes.”
Hand in Hand will also hold a relief aid telethon on Sept. 12 in an event organized by Bun B and Scooter Braun, who is known for being Justin Bieber’s longtime manager. The program will air on live networks including ABC, Fox, NBC, CBS and HBO. The telethon will include superstar actors and celebrities such as Beyoncé, Drake, Tom Hanks, Hilary Duff, Jimmy Fallon, Gwen Stefani and Sofia Vergara. There will also be a performance by George Strait to provide a moment of entertainment and remembrance for those who were directly affected by the impacts of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey.
Hand in Hand has been involved in collecting donations for hurricane relief aid since Hurricane Harvey’s impact on Houston and plans to continue its contribution to motivate other organizations to replicate its donation. With Apple’s help the victims of the storms may receive more aid to recuperate after the devastating effects of the hurricanes.
